BJK Cup 2023 Canada gold Italy silver

Italy surrenders in the last act of the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) 2023. Canada pulls together and wins the first Cup in its history in two matches.

The Azzurre, Italy, played very powerful team tennis. A clear domination that ended the ambitions of teams throughout the Group and in the Semi-final against Slovenia. The tennis players are Lucia Bronzetti, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Lucrezia Stefanini, Jasmine Paolini and Martina Trevisan. The last two athletes achieved victories based on strength and personality, leading Italy to the last day, the Final. To paraphrase everyday life: a very strong team.

Canada, Leylah Annie Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, Gabriela Dabrowski, Eugenie Bouchard, Marina Stakusic, had other teams ahead of her in the prediction. The Semifinal was led by Fernandez who, between singles and doubles, won over the almost always favorite Czech Republic.

The Final presented an Italy contracted, not loose, combative but yielding to the distance. Canada expressed the final act of the competition at its best in terms of play and intensity. Two teams similar in quality seen during the week but, the maple leaf prevailed over the tricolor.

In the first match, Trevisan’s almost anger had led her to a break back and a new break, going on to serve for the first set. In the other matches he always won, while today she suffered a break back, losing three consecutive games.

Marina Stakusic 7/5, 6/3 vs Martina Trevisan in 1.48 H

Leylah Fernandez 6/2, 6/3 vs Jasmine Paolini in 1.39 H

Italy did not play to dream but, to win. He lost but, at least directly on the court he always produced Tennis. The Canada that perhaps you don’t expect surprises, confirms and wins. In the roll of honor, with the United States in command with 18 victories, Canada 1, Italy 4.
