Michelangelo Pistoletto 90

by Alain Chivilò

Michelangelo Pistoletto turned ninety on 25 June 2023. Born in Biella in 1933, he is one of the masters of Arte Povera who has developed an artistic path in constant research.

The Castello di Rivoli dedicates a structured homage to the ninety-year-old artist by revisiting a wing of the museum through communicating thematic areas. Islands free and open to each other to frame a ninety-year study of life and evolution.

Along twenty-nine rooms, rooms, offices or rather Uffizi, the art of the Piedmontese Master is made visible through doors that specify the theme covered. A space, a city in the name of Pistoletto which takes up his recent examination dated 2022, The Formula of Creation, within which he analyzes the personal process in 31 phases for a new society created precisely by this system of essential steps.

An Art not closed but that interacts and allows further connections. Among installations, sculptures, mirrors and various materials, as the Arte Povera movement laid the foundations, nothing is still but everything is in constant research. Connections, exchanges to determine relationships and experiences.

The exhibition Michelangelo Pistoletto Molti di uno, curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Marcella Beccaria, from 12 November 2023 to 25 February 2024, is at Manica Lunga wing in a unique journey inside the Master’s concept.
