QF Australian Open day 11

by Alain Chivilò

The heat is on and always present. After huge tennis intensity, rest and relaxation become necessary and obligatory factors for an athlete after the routine dedicated to the media and the AO’s Organization.

From the Qualifiers, the surprise of the tournament is Dayana Yastremska. The Ukrainian tennis player reaches the semifinals with a top performance. Known and aready in the circuit, Yastremska, after a difficult year, finds and puts on the court the tennis qualities highlighted in previous years. Linda Noskova was of equal level, throughout the tournament and during the first set. The new 19-year-old Czech talent stands out among strong female personalities in tennis.

In 1.19 h, Dayana Yastremska 6/3, 6/4 vs Linda Noskova. The first set was balanced but Dayana demonstrated the determination and coolness that allowed her to win round after round. Break points won 2/2, Linda 1/3. Second set a break point is enough for Yastremska to walk on, while Noskova comes under pressure.

The man with a play made of spider webs, Daniil Medvedev in a fight lasting 3.59 hours wins at the deciding set against Hubert Hurckacz who has found renewed freshness in Australia.

7/6 (4), 2/6, 6/3, 5/7, 6/4 for an equilibrium broken by the minimum drop exploited by the opponent. Some statistical data show that Hurckacz is superior, 5/15 break points scored by the Pole, 4/9 by the Russian, but above all 164 points won by Hubert, 156 by Daniil. In some cases the data comparison is similar or close. Tennis is also made up of these aspects, with small differences, favorable and unfavorable moments, just as life is.

Anna Kalinskaya vs Qinwen Zheng a Quarter Final that could only highlight the tennis battle until the last ball on the court. In 2.20 h, Qinwen Zheng (4) 6/7, 6/3, 6/1 vs Anna Kalinskaya.

Extremely balanced opening set. Break and break back 2/2 Kalinskaya, 2/5 Zheng but in the final the Russian remains steadier and wins. Second set, the Chinese is not discouraged and coldly capitalizes on the break obtained, increasing the intensity. Deciding set, Qinwen breaks, 3-1, while Anna seems to have suffered the previous lost in this beginning, but during the match she requires medical timeout. Zheng continues to press and wins easily, achieving her best performance in Australia and for herself.

Second Semifinal. Qualifier Dayana Yastremska vs. n. 12 seed Qinwen Zheng. Impossible prediction at the start of the tournament and the start of the 2024 season. Will the two athletes be able to keep the intensity and energy expressed high? Will be motivations hard for both? Balance will still reign supreme.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev. Seed number 2 vs number 6. The German uses the technique of starting strong in the first games in order to put his opponent in difficulty, break and 3-0. Everything is in favor of Zverev, 5-1 and 6-1. Second set characterized by balance, but Zverev has the right attitude to go 2-0. Third similar, but at the moment of serving a flash from Carlos allows the break back. In the inevitable tiebreak, after Alexander’s advantage, the Spanish closes. The match reopened just at the moment in which Alcaraz seemed to have found no counter-moves to the German. Fourth set, break and break back, balance until 4-4. Zverev tries to force, getting the break. This time, however, serving for the match means going to the Semifinal still suffering a little. Subdued match for Alcaraz who in a few moments of the Quarter Final found the winning game of the past months. In 3.06 h, Alexander Zverev 6/1, 6/3, (2) 6/7, 6/4 vs Carlos Alcaraz.

Second Semifinal. Daniil Medvedev vs Alexander Zverev. High intensity match. The two players seem to be equal but, the German appears in his golden moments compared to the Russian. On the court it will be possible to see the finalist rejoicing in the name of Tennis.
