Semifinals Nitto ATP Finals 2023 Turin

by Alain Chivilò

Huge week of Tennis in Turin. The 2023 Nitto ATP Finals have reached the last two days: Semifinals, Finals.

Matches in the two preliminary rounds were very interesting and full of technical and competitive content. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Stefanos Tsitsipas who was injured during the tournament. From January 2024 the challenges will be further renewed.

The best match was in Tuesday 14th of November between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, 3.09 H of play, 7/5, (5) 6/7, 7/6 (2), a possible starter for the Final. Balanced, intense and theatrical match.

The trend of the last period was also present in this men’s act: hot serving, trying to break, giving all by releasing all strength and technique in the crucial moments of the set or tiebreak so as not to have replies. An apparent balance broken by winners shots with preparation during training.

1st Serv high %, depth of shots, alternating game solutions, drop shots, closure of the point at net, unforced errors low and cool return winners.

The ingredients are these and each player has customized them according to their coach and staff.

Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev

Italian Jannik Sinner is the favorite to win the final. No Italian has ever reached the final in the ATP Finals. Jannik could be the first Italian winner, giving further leverage to the reconfirmation of Turin after the first mandate. In recent days he was the only player with three victories but, he was the only one to play with intensity and superb technique. At 2.30 pm Sinner must enter the court and play as tennis requires. Russian Daniil Medvedev is slightly inferior in the innate ability to weave a geometric game capable of unhinging his opponents. Always at a high level in tournaments but, for now the top player of recent years does not appear. Jannik Sinner remains in the predictions.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic

Serbian Novak Djokovic is stainless. He lost vs Sinner but, is the second favorite to go to the Final and to reconfirm the title won last year. Theatrical when he wants, Nole was cold and clinical in the crucial moments of the matches. Excellent physical condition: a professional to always beat on the court. Carlos Alcaraz is having a less than brilliant season finale compared to other moments of the season. Some errors more but, he is always fearsome. An extremely balanced match at 9pm.

In doubles, semifinals:

Granollers / Zeballos vs Bopanna / Ebden

Ram / Salisbury vs Gonzales / Roger-Vasselin

The challenge is still open and will probably never close.
