Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev
Jannik’s apotheosis among the many he could still accomplish. First Italian player to reach the final of the ATP Finals. Prestigious target, fundamental for one’s personal tennis career but also, for the host nation. Turin and Italy are not silent but, scream and rejoice for Sinner’s victory in the semi-final.
Meeting Medvedev is never easy: everything was decided in the deciding set.
In 2.29 H, Jannik Sinner 6/3, (4) 6/7, 6/1 vs Daniil Medvedev
Opening set with Jannik furious after saving a break point. In a calculated and clinical way he breaks successfully and takes the advantage with him, winning the first set. Second, very balanced with Daniil at the only break point of the set saved by Sinner. In the inevitable tie-break the Russian surprises the Italian and draws the match. In the deciding set, Jannik Sinner takes center stage and commands the play, responding with presence in every part of the court. Medvedev doesn’t get any break points, Sinner 2/6. Continuing the set, with constant work on the hips, Jannik exhausts Daniil and raises his arms to the sky.
Immense performance by the Italian Jannik Sinner which crowns a successful season. Now the final, for the not easy icing on the cake. Daniil Medvedev instead returns to Russia, trying to recharge his batteries ahead of the Australian Open in less than two months.
Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz
The King of Serbia honors Italy returning consecutively to the final in Turin after the victory in 2022.
In 1.29 H, Novak Djokovic 6/3, 6/2 vs Carlos Alcaraz
Initially balanced opening set but, the cold Nole capitalized one of the two break points made, while Carlos did not: Djokovic 1/2, Alcaraz 0/2. Second set: in the third game Djokovic breaks at the right time and resists Carlos’ return, to break again, winning on serve.
Carlos Alcaraz ends a season full of satisfactions. In Spain he will have to recharge very well for the next Australian Open. Novak Djokovic, the professional, does not disappoint and continues with his dazzling tennis form.
The Final: Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic
Very hard and probably very balanced. Now, small differences will decide between one and the other. Two very champions: the veteran against the new. Although Jannik won the match few days ago, it won’t mean anything in the Final. Nole is excited to take revenge on Italian soil, Jannik is equally excited for a historic victory.
Djokovic winning the final would reach title no. 7, becoming the first winner at the ATP Finals, overtaking Roger Federer who is stuck forever at 6.
Jannik Sinner winning would give himself and Italy the first success at the ATP Finals.
In doubles, two hard-fought matches always decided at the right moment, maintaining and building the acquired advantage:
Granollers / Zeballos 7/5, 6/4 vs Bopanna / Ebden in 1.20 H
Ram / Salisbury 7/6 (5), 3/6, 10/7 vs Gonzales / Roger-Vasselin in 1.47 H
The Final: Granollers / Zeballos vs Ram / Salisbury
