Quarter finals. Women
Jelena Ostapenko vs Coco Gauff. The Latvian surprised n 1 Iga Swiatek in the deciding set. The Polish seemed to have rediscovered that cynical streak of playing on the pitch defined with respect terminator. This year she have shown that is less despite being at high levels. Ostapenko must never be underestimated because when she decides, the tennis expressed becomes very strong. Coco Gauff comes out of the match vs Caroline Wozniacki also in the deciding set. In August she showed great intensity and continuity with the victory in Cincinnati. The Danish, arriving at 16, personally highlighted she could return to interesting levels, even if playing and planning a complete season is always different from a return studied in detail.
Sorana Cirstea vs Karolina Muchova. Observing the values in the field, balance is a must. Cirstea has a very high level that hasn’t been seen for many months. Even Bencic was surprised. Muchova reached the final in Cincinnati, she is maintaining her condition; vs Wang in the deciding set. The reading keys will alternate.
About keys: Marketa Vondrousova vs Madison Keys. Another indecipherable round. The Czech has returned to Wimbledon and on hard she proves to be present, fighting up at the final set vs Stearns. The second, American, walked vs a Pegula in a distracted and emotional way. If her Keys return, a few more doors could open to her, recalling a final several years ago. Tough and balanced fight.
Qinwen Zheng vs Aryna Sabalenka. The Chinese froze Ons Jabeur in straight sets who started as favorite. Zheng is demonstrating tennis intensity and form. Sabalenka is often an emotional woman and she doesn’t get what she deserves. In the match without flags, against Daria Kasatkina reigns with ease.
For now Aryna is the favorite to win the final but, an extremely balanced USOpen can be seen from the main draw. Everything could happen.
Quarter finals. Men
Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev. Although in Italy the idea of carrying on Sinner had made us forget how well the German Zverev is playing, returning to levels that are his responsibility, the match represents a possible early final. The number 1 of the tournament if wants to be king, must start his European campaigns. The first without particular discomfort with commitment in three sets, against an interesting Matteo Arnaldi always well composed in the creation of the play. The second will be in Germany vs Zverev engaged in 4.41 hours of play in the deciding set for a round to be defined as all or nothing. Jannik Sinner under 2-1 equalizes and tries everything in the fifth. Alexander in a clinical way capitalizes the only break point had, a situation that Sinner fails. Very intense match between two players from the future that is now.
Daniel Medvedev vs Andrey Rublev. Russian clash in the USA. Fascinating game but for now without a flag. Two strong exponents of European tennis. Medvedev, down 0 – 1, in four sets vs Alex de Minaur. Rublev always in four sets vs Jack Draper. Challenging matches but well conducted by the two Russian players. It will be a match to admire.
Frances Tiafoe vs. Ben Shelton. The Stars and Stripes game for men. Super balanced should give US audiences a lot of fun. Shelton may be feeling the tension more but so far he has played like a veteran, see vs Paul. Tiafoe is liked because he is always a funny guy for the audience. He won easily against Hijikata. Every result is valid.
Taylor Fritz vs Novak Djokovic. Both in three sets respectively vs Stricker and Gojo. American Taylor would love to go to the Semifinal in New York against the Serbian Nole that always has a thought about the final, trying to touch up some records.
