WTA 500 Linz Sara Jasmine and Jelena

by Alain Chivilò

After the storm of the 2024 Australian Open, tennis continues its run without ever stopping. Every week new battles, new joys and new disappointments.

Upper Austria ladies Linz. WTA 500.

Ostapenko and Errani-Paolini are the undisputed winners.

Interesting performance by the Italian players, Jasmine Paolini, Sara Errani, Lucia Bronzetti, Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Martina Trevisan. In the doubles, two pairs, as in Australia, demonstrated tenacity and character by winning as unseeded players. A thought needs to be given for the season, especially if the performance continues. The WTA Doubles Finals could propose an Italian ones.

Donna Vekic, Elise Mertens, Ekaterina Alexandrova, qualifier Jodie Anna Burrage, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Clara Tauson were seen at interesting levels of play.

In 1.10 h, the number one seed plays without any drop in performance and wins: Jelena Ostapenko 6/2, 6/3 vs Ekaterina Alexandrova. A tournament conducted by Jelena with authority. In the final, Alexandrova failed to achieve break points but even in the game she suffered against her opponent.

In 1.33 h Errani – Paolini in the decisive set in a battle: 7/5, 4/6, 10/7 vs Melichar-Martinez / Perez seeded no. 1. three very heated sets with the Azzurra pair ready to maintain the gap and win.

In Australia Paolini dragged Errani, but Sara also dragged Jasmine. In Austria they expressed great character and reactivity. The opponents are a formidable and strong couple on the doubles circuit. A strong victory for the Italians, but above all a couple to continue to see on the court, although the tournaments may vary between the two and the same condition throughout the season. In summary, if any: stay together without changing.

ATP 250 Open Sud de France, Montpellier: Alexander Bublik 5/7, 6/2, 6/3 vs Borna Coric in 2.17 h
