WTA 500. Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis 2023.
Veronika Kudermetova’s return to victory in two sets 7/5, 6/1 in 1.25 H vs Jessica Pegula.
The number 8 seed, after some tournaments on the rise, crowned an important victory in the Tokyo’s WTA 500. Everything in the tough opening set. Ons Jabeur confirms her tournament number one winning 6/2, 6/1 vs the surprise Diana Shnaider in 1.18 H. The final was very clear in its play.
Ons fought in the quarterfinal and semifinal against Zvonareva and Podoroska respectively, winning at the deciding set. Performances that saw her fight as a viaticum to the final victory. Diana beat the terrible Czechs Kvitova and Fruhvirtova between the quarter-final and the semi-final but, she succumbed to the tension of the final and to some energy left round after round.
In doubles, Vera Zvonareva – Laura Siegemund 4/6, 6/3, 10/5 vs Xinyu Jiang – Hanju Guo in 1.25 H. Fought final which saw the number one seeds win at the third set.
Now China Open WTA 1000 Beijing, with Aryna Sabalenka n. 1 and Iga Swiatek n. 2, in the last month of the season before the Finals.
